The House of Representatives voted 321-105 in favor, followed by the Senate 79-19, for the GIVE (Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act) bill, HR 1388.  This bill, called by some “Obama’s Youth Brigade Bill”, claims to amend the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (NSCA) and the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (DVSA).  This reminds me of Rush Lmbuaugh’s satirical commercial for “Obama Core”, but this isn’t funny and is much more like Hitler Youth.  That’s frightening.  Here are some more frightening excerpts from the bill:

SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.

Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows:

SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.

(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:

(1) Attempting to influence legislation.

(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.

And there’s more, this time against religion…

(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.

And even more…

(10) Such other activities as the Corporation may prohibit.

Here is how our Senators voted for it:

  • One Democrat senator abstained from voting (Dorgan)
  • 55 Democrats voted in favor of the bill (Akaka, Baucus, Bayh, Begich, Bennet, Bingaman, Boxer, Brown, Burris, Byrd, Cantwell, Cardin, Carper, Casey, Conrad, Dodd, Durbin, Feingold, Feinstein, Gillibrand, Hagan, Harkin, Inouye, Johnson, Kaufman, Kennedy, Kerry, Klobuchar, Kohl, Landrieu, Lautenberg, Leahy, Levin, Lincoln, McCaskill, Menéndez, Merkley, Mikulski, Murray, Nelson, Nelson, Pryor, Reed, Reid, Rockefeller, Schumer, Shaheen, Stabenow, Tester, Udall, Udall, Warner, Webb, Whitehouse and Wyden)
  • 2 Independents voted for the bill (Lieberman and Sanders)
  • 23 Republicans voted for the bill (Alexander, Bennett, Bond, Burr, Chambliss, Cochran, Collins, Enzi, Grassley, Gregg, Hatch, Hutchison, Isakson, Johanns, Lugar, Martinez, McCain, Murkowski, Snowe, Specter, Stabenow, Voinovich and Wicker)
  • 19 Republicans had the backbone to vote against the bill (Barrasso, Brownback, Bunning, Coburn, Corker, Cornyn, Crapo, DeMint, Ensign, Graham, Inhofe, Kyl, McConnell, Risch, Roberts, Sessions, Shelby, Thune and Vitter)

What is our country coming to, and what kind of effect will such a bill have on the one million young people that Barack Hussein Obama wants in his youth core?  We will be watching carefully, and reporting to you.
