What are Liberalism and Conservatism? And what is Conservatism NOT? To answer those questions, I’ll just summarize what Conservatism IS (Source: “The Conservative’s Handbook”, by Phil Valentine, modified a little by me):
- Although America is not perfect, it is the greatest nation in the history of the world
- Belief in the Christian God is a central cornerstone of our republic
- Character is the most important attribute in a leader
- Small business leaders are the lifeblood of the American economy
- Families, one man married to one woman, are the basic building blocks of society
- Guns save lives, the bad guys will always have them, and the founding fathers considered them important enough to mention in the Constitution
- If we were either born in America or legally became an American citizen, you are an American first, and not an African-American, or a Chinese-American, etc.
- Illegal Immigration is bad for America
- Junk science, led by politician spokesman (not a scientist) Al Gore, is behind so called Global Warming
- Abortion is murder, shown in true science and the Bible
- Liberalism is an ideology doomed to failure
- A strong military protects America
- Government should be small, and make national security its top priority
- Capitalism should not be used to fuel communist regimes abroad
- Political Oppression is the liberal version of Fascism
- Quotas are wrong
- Ronald Reagan was right
- Schools are best run by local people on the local level
- Tax rates should be flat and fair
- Unions are destroying many companies
- Vigilance is the price of freedom
- Welfare actually creates poverty, and demeans human beings
- Xenophobia is the root of protectionism
- You, not big government, are responsible for your destiny
- Zero tolerance is the most effective way to deal with crime
The above points are show by history and logic, and not merely emotion like liberalism is.
So where do Americans stand? The following chart shows that despite a generation of liberal media and extremist left wing groups bombarding us with their propaganda, America is still about twice as conservative as liberal, even if our so called representatives are as liberal as ever.

As Rush Limbaugh says, Conservatives love people and America, despite what liberals say. Take an honest look at what is happening to our government, country and cities under liberal oppression right now. Turn off CNN and turn on Fox News, and see for yourself what Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, and the other liberals are doing in plain site with no fear of consequences, and pray for our nation!
